But what catches the conscience of the crowd is the precision of the audio engineering. Sounds layered together create an impenetrable wall of noise that rattles guts and claims souls simultaneously. It’s festival ready and will test the integrity of whatever speakers it’s pushed through.
“Pow Pow” can go ahead and claim it’s rightful position on your setlist. An ominous buildup hypnotizes the audience, dropping them into a vicious Riddim roller all at once. What follows is complete audio annihilation, and the pulsing synth constructions are designed to instigate egregious displays of gunfinger maneuvering. As with “Ghost Boogie” the prevailing characteristic of the tune is its creativity. The track pulverizes the audience with a range of clever design techniques, which will keep crowds hooked on every sound.

]]>Starting the EP is “League” featuring Datsik, and it’s a full-on audio assault. The tune leads in with a sinister buildup and drops straight into the purifying fires a bass fueled inferno. As the track cycles through various inventive beat structures, the alternating sound designs pioneered by both Carbin and Datsik engage with each other. The experience is like listening to two phenom musicians taking turns showing audiences the range of their musical potential. The result is a tune that is always reshaping itself into bigger and bigger drops.
“Twenty-2-Life” is Carbin at his most formidable. With a euphoric topline initiating the track and a powerful sub bass rumbling guts underneath, this future classic riddim roller is designed to leave audiences in puddles. Carbin’s notorious synth stabs only feeds the frenzy, and his wall-of-sound design technique ensures a total immersion in the tune. Carbin knows exactly what he wants to do, always has, and an even more acute sense of how he wants the audience to react. “Twenty-2-Life” is study in crowd control.
Next up is “Not Your ID”, and like “Twenty-2-Life” it pumps from the bottom to the top. A heavy sub-bass undergirds the tune, carrying it along like a deep ocean swell. Carbin sustains the wave with expertly arranged synth structures and layering designs that fill the entirety of the tune. As the track crashes onto audiences on the dance floor, they’re swept away into bass bliss.
“All Night”, featuring the crown prince of bass music lyricism, Armanni Reign, slows the flow of the EP down for a sexy trap-hop hybrid. Booties will drop, and as Carbin invites us to shed our often restricted day-time personas for the creative potential of our ratchet rave avatars, we’re reminded about the importance of getting deep, down, and low.
Ending the EP is “City Lights”, and it’s a gorgeous euphoric treatment of bass-hybrid theory. Similar to “All Night”, Carbin slows the dance floor down and centers the energy of the tune on the groove centers of our consciousness. These last two tunes reveal a musical intelligence that outstretches the frame of the genres in which Carbin produces. His range is unlimited and his style is impeccable, and both characteristics will carry Carbin into the upper echelons of Bass Music’s hall of heros very soon.

]]>“Ice Shield” is a heavy track. What are some of the influences you can point to that led you to this production?
Ice Shield became what it is known today by a lot of trial and error with my production. I was in the process of sending Demos into Firepower that wouldn’t cut it, but it gave me motivation. My background in music is, lets say, “very very heavy”. Some people use the term Robostep of Deathstep and that is what I was originally known for. So I had to try something new and different. I submitted a song called “From Within”, a song with energy and emotion. That was the first demo track that Firepower saw potential in me in other forms of music (BTW this Track is now Free) So I decided I needed to drift to a new style with more energy and mass apeal. I contacted Skyloud, who is one of the members of Zetta, and we thought it would be a great idea to collaborate. He then hit up Deltabot, who is the other face of Zetta, and that’s how it all started. Now these guys know this style of music like of the back of their hand and were definitely the ones I needed to take this image in my head of what I was looking for and turn it into something everyone would love. I let Zetta take control of this project and learning more about this style, i’m very creative in my way of arrangements and how I want certain things to sound so we came up with this massive song!
How did the collaboration with Zetta come about?
So this question ties a lot into the first for me, but I can get into the nitty gritty of how me and Zetta came together. About a year ago me and Skyloud were going to actually join forces and start a new secret alias but that fell through. We kind of lost touch for a while, then a couple months ago, when I was trying to perfect this new sound I was chasing, I saw how well he was doing by himself. It was amazing and he’s still in high school! So I would ask him for feedback on tracks all the way to some sound design tricks. Fast forward a month or two. I got in touch with Firepower Records and Troy for the Infamous “DJ DatStick’ Twitter account that I made when he was in Chicago and had the ceilings collapse. Anyways I was able to get in touch with Troy and he liked some of my heavy stuff and told me I should Demo to the label. After I figured out what style of music Firepower saw potential in for 12th Hour I asked my buddy Skyloud if he would like to collab on a new demo to send Firepower after his successful track with TRIENERGY. He was of course down (who wouldn’t be) haha and he mentioned to me he started a new duo alias as Zetta with his good friend Matt (Deltabot). I of course was stoked to hear this, 3 producers putting their heads together, only good things can come from this. After the success of “Ice Shield” we actually have a lot of unreleased songs together that we hope the world will be ready for!!
Where can we see you play live? Any upcoming shows?
So I play live where ever I am requested. I had to unfortunately cancel two shows last month due to very serious family issues. But I plan on making those up and my next show is Saturday, March 19th, in the Chicagoland Area (the location is still TBA but if interested here is the link https://www.facebook.com/
What’s a piece of advice you wish more people would follow?
Stay humble. I’ve seen so many of my peers get an ounce of fame and they act like they don’t know you anymore. Its really sad because I had a falling out with a producer who I worked with and talked all the time. So yeah, that’s probably the best advice I can give anyone, no matter what you do, if it’s playing sports, making music, being an actor, anything that puts you in front of thousands and millions of people is just to stay humble and leave the ego at home’. Oh! and make music for yourself– don’t follow trends. Be unique and it will pay off in the end!
What’s one track that isn’t your own that you are really digging at the moment and why?
This is such a hard question because there are so many tracks I listen to on repeat. I am REALLLLLLY digging “Rip n Dip” by Getter at the moment, his new style really pushes me to make better and better music. He is probably my biggest inspiration at the moment.

LOS ANGELES (January 14, 2014) On January 27th, Firepower Records will release Bear Grillz’ The Unbearable EP, and with the level of bass this EP packs, it’s fair to say that hibernation is officially over.
The EP kicks off with “Praise It”, a bouncy homage to the Reggae and Dub inspired rock of the early 2000’s. The track toggles between live-sound and hard-as-nails Dubstep sections. The live-sound sections are a clever use of classic instrumentation and offer the listener a unique dual experience. The track “Triple Threat”, a three way collaboration between Bear Grillz, Datsik and Firepower Records footsoldier Twine, offers up the same kind of vibe. There are two musical experiences at work here—one resembling a full band playing on stage and another slamming the listener with a full-on bass and synth audio assault. The staying power of the dub sound is massive, and it has proven to be so influential through the history of music that it flows seamlessly from the dub rock genre into it’s harder electronic music iteration, Dubstep.
“Shark Attack”, however, takes no prisoners. It’s as aggressive and in your face as its title suggests. The shark attack tune made famous by the Jaws movie franchise lurks beneath the surface, and like the predator, this track will tear you up.
We all knew Bear Grillz was a promiscuous forest dwelling creature, but his track “DTF” seals the deal. It’s a peak hour electro house banger with some solid progressive synth tying everything together. But the message is clear, and you’ll want to be dancing next to someone you’re crushing on when the track slams festival sound systems this year.
It should be said, though, that Bear Grillz has an unorthodox hibernation schedule. Instead of shoving marmot flesh into his maw and then sleeping away the cold winter months, Bear Grillz has been touring North America on his marathon 45 date Oasis Tour with Mitis and Cry Wolf. Terravita has invited him onto their upcoming Gunpowder tour and he’s earned a spot on Firepower Records Label boss Datsik’s massive Ninja Nation Tour. It looks like the bear and his duck won’t be resting any time soon.
The Tracklisting for The Unbearable EP is:
1. Bear Grillz – “Praise It”
2. Bear Grillz – “Shark Attack”
3. Bear Grillz – “DTF”
4. Bear Grillz, Datsik & Twine – “Triple Threat” (Feat. General Jah Mikey)
