It’s a theme with which Zack the Lad will experiment throughout the EP, and, as in “I Want It”, his use of live drumming and guitar progressions acts as a homage to the roots of the culture. The melody is sexy and vibey, and as the winter chill sets in, this track is designed to warm you up.
“Make Me Move” infects the whole body before the mind has even registered what’s happening. Zack The Lad’s emphasis on soaring vocals, a gorgeously euphoric synth arrangement, and a heavy emphasis on the 808 trap style beat structure, boosts this track into the sexual stratosphere. His decision to support the track with a screaming electric guitar accentuates that very human yearning to break out and dance close with someone special.
“Bitter World” continues to push the organic dub theme, but the focus here should be on the soul-expanding wall of sound Zack The Lad builds into the track. Multiple layers of sound designs blast though the sound barrier, including live piano instrumentation and the sound of rain falling on a tin roof. The overall tone of the tune is on fire with a kind of cathartic melancholy made possible by the intense energy of the vocal. If bass music was a church, this track would lead the ritual.
Datsik selected “Skin” as his “UKF Tune of the Month” last year. It’s soulfull and searching, and the mind yields for the body. Sinister yet musical, the organic nature of the track feels like a throwback to Robert Miles and the heavy Trip Hop stylings of his 2001 Organik album. Zack The Lad’s pure artistry is displayed here, and as the song reunites the mind with the body, we realize that music is a kind of powerful drug, and the best artists remind us of that through their art. From now on, we put Zack The Lad in that category.

LOS ANGELES (July 15th, 2014) Today marks the release of Fox Stevenson‘s highly anticipated Throwdown EP. With an onslaught of advanced praise from some of the most reputable Dance Music institutions in the business, Throwdown is set to be Fox Stevenson’s biggest release yet.
“I’ve been a huge supporter of Fox since I first heard his music,” Firepower’s label boss Datsik says. “I’ve had this release on repeat since he sent it over and I’m super excited to be able to bring you guys another amazing EP from him! IMHO this kid is the future!”
With a mastery of all facets of the production process, Fox Stevenson has developed a formula that allows him to produce both as a mainstream artist and as a filthy Bass music maker simultaneously. He grew up in an artistic environment and flourishes as a fearless performer on and off stage. He writes, sings, and mixes his own material in a live-act performance that incorporates multiple genres, creates a fun, upbeat and explosive sound, and pushes the limits of electronic music.
UKF has described Fox Stevenson as “a unique gentleman who has the ability to conjure up vocal tracks that are so fresh yet instantly distinctive,” adding, “whether it’s D&B, dubstep or his recent foray into 128 breakbeat-influenced tracks, the second you hear a Fox Stevenson track you KNOW it’s him.
Writing for The Music Ninja, Brooke Ferguson puts it simply: “Fox Stevenson continues to impress us all with his eclecticism in his productions; whether it be dark and heavy or cute and poppy, he knows how to infuse all aspects of music and make us all feel some type of way.”
Throwdown is a 5 track EP designed to ignite dance floors all over the planet. Period. But unlike mass-produced “Bangers” saturating the market, Fox Stevenson focuses on quality over quantity.
With the tracks “All In” and “Manage”, for example, the casual listener is immediately struck by the emotional pith and complex narrative structures. The title track, “Throwdown”, destroys the traditional concepts of electronic dance music by combining Fox Stevenson’s gift for songwriting with a classic Drum and Bass beat. “Double Up” satisfies any Dubstep cravings with heavy doses of brainsplitting buzzsaw synths, and “High Five!” reminds us why we listen to music in the first place.
The result is an EP that is an all-out face-melter you can scream to. Most dance songs suffer from a deficit of meaning, but Fox Stevenson channels the singer/songwriter’s of the past and provides a product that inspires both the body and the mind.
There, of course, no better way to experience this kind of talent than at a live event. Fox Stevenson will playing the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 12th with Paper Diamond and Flux Pavilion.
