Protohype – Firepower Records http://firepowerrecords.com Mon, 21 Aug 2017 15:52:34 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Firepower Records to Release Dack Janiels’ Dackwoods EP http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-dack-janiels-dackwoods-ep/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-dack-janiels-dackwoods-ep/#respond Mon, 21 Aug 2017 15:52:34 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2939 Pre-Order Dackwoods Here: https://FirepowerRecords.lnk.to/dackwoods

Los Angeles (August 21st, 2017) – Firepower Records is excited to announce the forthcoming release of Dack JanielsDackwoods EP, which drops September 8th. It’s an absolute crusher. This will be Dack’s second EP release with Firepower Records, and it surpasses the level of savagery he injected into his first EP with us, Swangin, which is saying a lot—Swangin was some top level filth. Dackwoods reveals a producer who has become a pioneer in multi genre bass production movements sweeping the game right now. With deep roots in Hip Hop and Rap, Dack Janiels brings us an EP that will fit into any festival set list, leaving major DJs across the world wondering how their set was ever any good without these tunes.

The EP begins with the title track, “Dackwoods”, and it’s a pulverizing trapstyle roller. A slicing synth construction leads the tune over the low rumbling bass. Dack Janiels has created a tune that is festival ready, but would also sound sick AF rolling down Sunset Blvd on the way to the next function.

“Slaughter” goes 0 to Riddim real quick, and as that beat proves it’s capacity to annihilate bass hungry fans around the globe, Dack Janiels pushes its evolution. By adding huge, heavy synth components and more modern bass constructions, the tune is a big and tasty slice of the future of what Riddim will be.

Protohype and Dack Janiels join forces for “Savage”, and all the hype surrounding the tune is real, and has been supported by Excision, Snails, Uber, and Subtronics. Both Dack and Protohype have played this tune out through this summer’s festival season, and the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The sinister chord progression and west coast rap feel combines with Protohype’s stellar production prowess, and the result is a massive Dubstep anthem.

Squaring out the EP is “Extra Power”, and this is Dack Janiels’ attempt to KO the audience. Toggling between major trap styles and Dubstep beat constructions, the tune garners a complexity that allows for a major buildup and heavier drop. Dack Janiels builds in a wall of sound that puts the pressure on crowds and does not let up. It’s a dangerous tune, and for that reason, it should be used widely.

Tracklist for Dackwoods:

  1. Dack Janiels – “Dackwoods”
  2. Dack Janiels – “ Slaughter”
  3. Prothype & Dack Janiels – “Savage”
  4. Dack Janiels – “Extra Power”

Firepower Records to Release Shellshock Kamikaze Compilation http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-shellshock-kamikaze-compliation/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-shellshock-kamikaze-compliation/#respond Sun, 17 Apr 2016 18:58:36 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2345 Pre Order the Shellshock Kamikaze Compilation here: http://bit.ly/KamikazePRE

Los Angeles (April 18th, 2016) Firepower Records is proud to announce the next release of our Shellshock Compilation, Kamikaze, and we’re getting early reports that it’s already setting flammable material ablaze thousands of miles away. The release of our yearly Shellshock Compilation also gives us a chance to reach out to you, our extended Firepower Fam, and celebrate the fact that you are what make us so strong.

Since its humble inception in March of 2012 by Troy BeetlesDatsik by his nom de guerre—Firepower Records has evolved into a bass music behemoth, releasing heavyweight producers like Datsik, Protohype, Getter, Barely Alive, Truth, Bear Grillz, Mayhem, Antiserum, Fox Stevenson, Must Die, PhaseOne, Terravita, ETC! ETC! and Trolley Snatcha and featuring Hip Hop and Rock royalty like Snoop Dog, Trinidad James, KRS-One, DJ Paul KOM of Three-6 Mafia and Travis Barker of Blink 182. The Firepower Family currently claims 65 artists and counting and on May 13th, the label will showcase the best and most badass it has to offer. As a show of overwhelming support, some of dance music’s heaviest hitters have signed on by offering tracks exclusively for the ShellShock Kamaikaze release. The tracklist reads like a bass music “best-of” list. If Bass Music had a fantasy league, this would be a winning line-up.

But Firepower is more than a disjointed and disconnected series of artists and tracks. We like to consider ourselves more of a Family and the ShellShock Kamikaze release as more of a family reunion. Firepower Records is a label and an internationally respected dance music brand, but it would be nothing without the like-minded artists, friends, neighbors, and fans that hold it all together and keep it alive.

There’s no finer example of the familial nature of the bass music world than the first collaboration on the Compilation. Datsik and 12th Planet come together with a dub infused “Party In The Sewer” featuring Elan, and it’s massive. A one-man wub factory, Datsik smashes the track with his signature wobbles, while 12th planet puts his creative beat creation and swampy sound techniques to work. Next, returning family member Bear Grillz throws down with “Nap Gurlz”. The disco hook pumps your impulse to dance and the drops will snap your neck if you’re not prepared. A quick word though–this track is in no way associated with the good people of Nap Girls, and if you’re interested in who they are, check them out! Protohype and Stratus put in work with “Let’s Do This”, and as expected the two artists march us through a spectrum of sound structures so diverse you lose your mind trying to keep track. Soltan continues to impress us with his creative vision. With “Turn Up” he takes Bass Music to the edges of the known universe and then hits lightspeed. Soltan is easily one of the new visionaries, and we should all be watching him closely.

EH!DE and Funk4mation peel the roof off with “Come Back”, and the Bass living under the basement of this track is scary and mad. EH!DE’s been crushing it recently, but it goes without saying that this has been the year of Zack The Lad. His release Black Sheep began the Firepower Records release calendar in 2016 and we just can’t get enough. It has been said that Datsik only has a few artists loaded into his personal iPod, and one of those artists is Zack The Lad. Here, he offers us “Won’t Stop”, and his production skill is immediately superior.

Spag Heddy is back with “Hugs and Stuff”, and we couldn’t be more stoked. A definite fan favorite, Spag Heddy has released nothing but fire. The opening wraps the listener with sonic sunshine and then slams your ass to ground. That must be the “Stuff” in the title. Init, Goldplate, and Hami all put in on “Greens”, and with all three of these stellar talents maximizing potential, the result is an epic facemelter. If there’s any way to guarantee the crowds will run a mosh pit on you, hammer this track through the sound system.

It’s been a while since AFK rolled out a release with Firepower Records, and we’re glad to have him back. “Death Gun” showcases the frenetic and yet focused musical mind of AFK. The synth takes us all over the sonic map, and we love it. We also love Drum and Bass, and what’s bass music without a little heavy Drum and Bass? Leave that to MineSweepa. “No Face” takes bass very seriously. The shift to Drum and Bass is perfectly placed in the track and by the time it hits, you’ve separated your mind from its corporeal lodgings. Rounding out the EP is Twine. They do nothing but amazing work, and it’s clear by the complexity of their productions. “Dayjahvuh” is another reminder that Bass Music is nowhere near finished evolving. The beat structure, with its diversity of fills and intricate sound designs, is both groovy and heavy.

The collection of talent contained in the Shellshock Kamikaze Compilation represents the best of what bass music has to offer and we’re happy to be sharing it with you.

The tracklist for Shellshock Kamikaze is:

  1. Datsik & 12th Planet – “Party In The Sewer” (feat. Elan)
  2. Bear Grillz – “Gurlz”
  3. Protohype & Stratus – “Let’s Do This”
  4. Soltan – “Turn Up”
  5. EH!DE & Funk4Mation – “Come Back”
  6. Zack The Lad – “Won’t Stop”
  7. Spag Heddy – “Hugs And Stuff”
  8. Init, Goldplate & Hami – “Greens”
  9. AFK – “Death Gun”
  10. MineSweepa – “No Face”
  11. Twine – “Dayjahvuh”

Firepower Records to Release Protohype’s Puppy Crew EP http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-protohypes-puppy-crew-ep/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-protohypes-puppy-crew-ep/#respond Sun, 20 Mar 2016 20:47:19 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2322 Los Angeles (March 15th, 2016) Firepower Records is set to drop Protohype’s Puppy Crew EP on April 8th and it may be the first Bass music EP devoted to the relationships between dogs and their people. If you know Protohype, you know the love he has for his dog Jelly is unconditional. As a touring DJ, though, there are long stretches of separation, but the love fans around the world have for their own puppies is a shared experience. If you love bass music and you love your puppy, you’re part of the Puppy Crew. And in celebration of that bond, Protohype will be giving away the EP to fans for free who donate to his favorite animal rescue charity organization. Stay locked for more info on participating. Don’t be fooled by all the talk of puppies, though. This EP is frightfully deceptive and dangerously dank.

“ Livin’ it” featuring Micah Martin comes out strong with a scorching Dubstep roller infused with a soaring synth arrangement. Protohype immediately displays his production prowess by installing his signature growls, which balance over the top of a more melodic top line. Micah Martin’s voice accompanies the tune perfectly and introduces a classic dub style of vocalism. The track is complex and provides a solid peak hour selection for any bass music set.

Protohype and Minesweepa come together with lyricist Malcolm Anthony for “100”, the first of two tracks Anthony will lend his vocals to. Protohype has always been able to successfully pair his tracks with proper lyricists, and Malcolm is no exception. Rapping over a Bounce bassline in “100”, he transforms the track from a full-throttle rave tune to a festival sing along. With “Lights On”, he shows he can shift gears and create a more euphoric soundscape. The song is gorgeous, and it provides a nice interlude to the hard-as-nails tracks comprising the rest of the EP.

Whenever Datsik and Protohype get together, at least one of the results is a new dance floor smasher. That’s what we have with “Dubs & 50’s”. One part Dubstep crusher and one part sex-on-the-dancefloor bass anthem, the track shows the creative range of two of the world’s most talented bass producers. Classic Datsik Wubs permeate the tune, but there’s a decidedly ambitious attempt to defy all genre categories. The result is a track that’s always changing and never the same.

Stratus jumps on “Drop The Hammer” which feature Ras on vocals. The track is destructive and features a three beat cocktail that, when mixed with a dance floor, is extremely volatile. Cycling from a break and drumstep beat to trapstyle to Moombahton, the track only demands everything from the audience and leaves only sweaty bodies. It’s a party igniter, plain and simple.

Rounding out the EP is “Loco”, and it lives up to its namesake. Init comes on board and influences Protohype’s nastier, mechy side. Much more minimal and mechanical than the sweeping anthems Protohype normally orchestrates, “Loco” is designed to get under your skin and stay there. Init has a knack for this kind production, and he works well to balance all the melody of the previous 5 songs.

The tracklist for Puppy Crew is:

  1. Protohype – “Livin’ It” (Feat. Micah Martin)
  2. Protohype & Minesweepa – “100” (Feat Malcolm Anthony)
  3. Datsik & Protohype – “Dubs & 50’s”
  4. Protohype & Stratus – “Drop the Hammer” (Feat, Ras)
  5. Protohype – “Lights On” (Feat. Malcom Anthony)
  6. Protohype & Init – “Loco”

Firepower Records to Release Flatline Compilation Vol. 3 http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-flatline-compilation-vol-3/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-flatline-compilation-vol-3/#comments Tue, 16 Feb 2016 15:46:52 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2240 Los Angeles (February 16th) – Firepower Records is back with another massive Flatline Compilation, and, once again, the sonic weaponry assembled here proves the premise at the core of our philosophy: there’s no such thing as too much Firepower.

The question becomes “what do you do when you have a surplus of so much bass?” You bundle it all together and light it up. And that’s exactly what we did with these four choice tracks from some established firepower fam members and some artists fresh to the label. This collection exhibits our desire for the deeper, minimal, less mainstream and more underground sounds, and it challenges listeners to think twice about entrenching so hard in any particular part of the Bass music spectrum. We are therefore proud to announce the much anticipated 3rd volume of our Flatline Compilation.

Starting the compilation is a scorching VIP cut of “Recon” from two of Firepower’s most prolific producers—Protohype and PhaseOne. Chances are good you lost your mind to the original when it dropped on our Shellshock Legends compilation in May of last year. Turbocharge it, attach a jet engine to it, and you’ll come close to an idea of what this VIP might sound like. It’s all energy. Did you expect anything less from two of the most energetic producers in the bass music game?

It’s an honor to have Jarvis with us on the compilation. Last year, a call went out to remix Datsik’s global banger “Katana” from his Down 4 My Ninjas EP, and Jarvis answered the call in a fury we didn’t expect. “I’m on fire” showcases that talent. He displays an impressive range of production techniques, a clean vocal sample, and a diverse beat sequence. His synth layering shows a clear ear for musicianship, and his ability to construct a wall of sound makes this track festival ready right out the door. Expect big things from this up-and-comer.

We’re also stoked to have Zetta and 12th Hour with us on the compilation. “Ice Shield” is a heavy, buzzsaw-to-the-braincase track loaded to the max with enough audio ammo to re-calibrate even the most advanced soundsystems. Eerie and sinister, the track is a foot to the throat that only let’s up enough to let you breathe before it slams you again.

Krimer rounds out the compilation with “Bone Crusher”. We’ve been waiting a long time to get Krimer’s music out to the world, and given the insanity this track brings, the wait was worth it. The beat is frenetic yet fluid, never at ease with settling in. The synth is playfully aggressive, a kind of masochistic impulse that hurts so good. There’s a creative mind at work here, and the unique sound designs show a producer pushing the barriers of bass music.

The tracklist for Flatline Vol. 3 is:

  1. Protohype and PhaseOne – “Recon” (VIP)
  2. Jarvis – “I’m on Fire”
  3. Zetta and 12th Hour – “Ice Shield”
  4. Krimer – “Bone Crusher”

Shell Shock Legends Compilation http://firepowerrecords.com/shell-shock-legends-compilation/ http://firepowerrecords.com/shell-shock-legends-compilation/#comments Mon, 06 Apr 2015 14:50:55 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=1430 fp_shellshock_legends_art_1400px

(Los Angeles) April 6th Since its humble inception in March of 2012 by Troy Beetles—otherwise known as DatsikFirepower Records has evolved into a bass music behemoth, releasing heavyweight producers like Datsik, Protohype, Getter, Truth, Bear Grillz, Mayhem, Antiserum, Fox Stevenson, Must Die, Proper Villains, PhaseOne, Terravita, Infuze, and Fei Fei, and featuring Hip Hop royalty like KRS-One and DJ Paul KOM of Three-6 Mafia. The Firepower Family currently claims forty-four artists and counting. On May 5th, the label will celebrate an impressive milestone: the 100th release! As a show of overwhelming support for this special achievement, some of dance music’s heaviest hitters have signed on by offering tracks exclusively for the Shell Shock Legends release. The tracklist reads like a bass music “best-of” list. If Dubstep had a fantasy league, this would be a winning line-up.

But Firepower is more than a disjointed and disconnected series of artists and tracks. We like to consider ourselves more of a Family and the Shell Shock Legends release more of a family reunion. Firepower Records is a label and an internationally respected dance music brand, but it would be nothing without the like-minded artists, friends, neighbors, and fans that hold it all together and keep it alive.

Harnessing the chaos is Sharra Duggan, one of the few female executives at the helm of an international dance music label. In September of 2012, Sharra was asked by Troy jump into the fray and steer the label in the right direction. In 2013, after a number of hugely successful releases, she changed her full-time occupation to “Label Manager” and moved to LA where she resides today. She sits at the helm of one of the biggest Dubstep labels on the planet. Together, with Troy Beetles acute music sense and her gregarious personality and tenacious work ethic, Firepower has garnered an extremely loyal artist base that returns to release on the label year after year. Getter and Protohype, for example, helped establish the heavy Firepower sound that fans have grown to love. Protohype offers two tracks to the Shell Shock Legends compilation: a collaboration with Datsik and Init called “Turf Wars”, and “Recon”, a collaboration with the Australian based PhaseOne. Getter throws down, too, with a massive heater called, naturally, “The Heat”.

As the label evolves, Troy and Sharra continue to engineer a shift in how we perceive bass music. By welcoming the Trap and Hip Hop influences of artists like Antiserum and Tha Trickaz, Sub Antix, and Minesweepa, they push the often stifling Dubstep genre towards and through the edges of its know universe. “Boom”, a collaboration between Antiserum and Tha Trickaz, is a wicked look into the sound Firepower successfully integrated into the Catalogue.

Troy and Sharra are also aware that it takes new blood to sustain the Firepower movement. Arguably, one of Datsik’s most notable additions to the Firepower Family was the Bass phenom Twine, whose meteoric success has seen him rise through the ranks quickly enough to be featured prominently on festival stages and festival playlists all over the world. Twine offers up “Insanity” featuring the inimitable word-smithing of Mayor Apeshit to the Shell Shock Legends compilations, and it’s a filthy, swampy, mind-splitter.

Since 2012, Firepower Records has progressed from one release every other month or so to the release-per-week machine the label is today. In the process, Troy and Sharra cultivated and nurtured a family of artists that really loved working with the label. It became a Firepower Family, and the members ultimately devoted themselves to the label, rewarding their hard work with loyalty. Sharra’s leadership and Troy’s clairvoyance allowed the label to weather the “Dubstep is Dead” storm, not by pushing back in a futile attempt at self-validation, but by becoming a business chameleon and adapting to the changing landscape. Firepower Records outsmarted the critics by focusing on the fundamentals and the truth driving the passion.

Shell Shock Legends is all the proof you need.

Tracklist for Shell Shock Legends:

1. Datsik, Protohype & Init – “Turf Wars”
2. Antiserum & Tha Trickaz – “Boom”
3. Infuze & Proper Villains – “Galaxia”
4. Datsik – “Troynado”
5. Protohype & PhaseOne – “Recon”

7. Twine – “Insanity” (Feat. Mayor Apeshit)

LOS ANGELES (Ocotber 8th) When Firepower Record’s head honcho Datsik let it be known earlier this summer that Fox Stevenson’s Throwdown EP was his absolute favorite, the Dubstep world wondered what he had up his sleeve. When the Throwdown EP dropped in July, that wonder turned into a certainty that Firepower Records was in the business of representing the power of Bass in all its forms. An unmitigated talent in his own right, Fox Stevenson’s power of Bass was seemingly endless. With a mastery of all facets of the production process, Fox Stevenson has developed a formula that allows him to produce both as a mainstream artist and as a filthy Bass music maker simultaneously. He grew up in an artistic environment and flourishes as a fearless performer on and off stage. He writes, sings, and mixes his own material in a live-act performance that incorporates multiple genres, creates a fun, upbeat and explosive sound, and pushes the limits of electronic music. Datsik saw this and wasn’t going to let it slip through his fingers.

Three months after the release of the Throwdown EP some of bass music’s most respected producers including The Brig, Rob Gasser, ETC! ETC! & Tight Traxx, xKore, and Protohype, whose recent track “Zero” off of his Encore EP shot to the #1 spot on the Beatport Dubstep Chart when it was released, have signed on to remix one of the biggest bass music releases of the summer.

The Throwdown EP’s 5 tracks were originally each designed to ignite dance floors all over the planet. And they did! Shortly after its release, Throwdown hit multiple Beatport #1’s. The obvious question is: how do you make something this good stand out even more?

The track “High Five” get an insane wobble-ridden upgrade in the Throwdown Remixes EP. Rob Gasser takes the title track, “Throwdown”, to the stratosphere by adding a heavy Drumstep/Drum and Bass bassline and one of his signature synth top-lines. Gasser’s most impressive move, though, is his foresight in keeping the quality of Fox Stevenson’s vocals intact but rearranging them to fit his production philosophy. The result is an expertly arranged remix that sounds unique and original.

But it’s ETC! ETC! & Tight Traxx remix of “Double Up” that steals the show. With ETC! ETC!’s expertise in the Trap game and Tight Traxx existence in the more obscure realms of Flume-esque dance production, the resulting remix is a beautifully haunting rendition of an already aurally alluring track. Rounding out the EP is Xkore’s infectious and scorching Moombhaton hybrid version of “Manage” and Protohype’s take of “All In”. Diehard fans of Firepower’s early releases will recognize Xkore’s “take no prisoners” sound design philosophy and be pleased with the result, while those waiting on Protohype’s penchant for Festival Stage smashers won’t be disappointed either.

The tracklisting is:

1. Fox Stevenson – “High Five!” (The Brig Remix)
2. Fox Stevenson – “Throwdown” (Rob Gasser Remix)
3. Fox Stevenson – “Double up” (ETC! ETC! & Tight Traxx Remix)
4. Fox Stevenson – “Manage” (xKore Remix)
5. Fox Stevenson – “All In” (Protohype Remix)
