PhaseOne – Firepower Records http://firepowerrecords.com Tue, 21 Feb 2017 18:43:39 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Firepower Records to Release PhaseOne’s New SIngle “Area 51” Featuring F3tch http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-new-single-area-51/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-new-single-area-51/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2016 13:46:57 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2572 Los Angeles (November 2, 2016) – Firepower Records is set to release PhaseOne’s brand new single “Area 51” featuring F3tch, and it’s the logical follow-up to his latest mind-melter “UFO”. PhaseOne cannot be stopped. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, he continues to produce on a level unreachable by many artists out there today. Maybe it’s his devotion to detail, or his ability to engineer complex musical arrangements into his tracks; he never ceases to amaze fans with his straight-up filth burgers. We’re glad to have him back.

“Area 51” comes at you with an ominous intro, an audio invasion that starts innocuously enough. PhaseOne and F3tch obviously imagine an occupying force of extraterrestrials to establish first a tolerable rapport with its human subjects. But the tension of the track increases, and it becomes clear that PhaseOne does not mean for this interaction to go well. With a buildup that gathers in a terrifying intensity, the drop hits and absolutely demolishes everything in its path. The paranoia is real, but it’s too late. The track is incurring massive damage with its unearthly synth pulses and growls. PhaseOne opens fire with the big guns here and marches across the audio landscape snapping necks and banging heads. Weaponize your peak hour with “Area 51”. The truth is out there!

In the Firepower Hotseat with PhaseOne http://firepowerrecords.com/in-the-firepower-hotseat-with-phaseone-2/ http://firepowerrecords.com/in-the-firepower-hotseat-with-phaseone-2/#comments Thu, 30 Jun 2016 17:30:26 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2440 There’s been some weird paranormal shit going down in Australia. Reports of minds being abducted, faces melting on dancefloors, bodies thrown into convulsions that look, oddly enough, like aggressive headbanging. We looked into it. Turns out PhaseOne was DJing. Makes sense. His last few releases with Firepower Records have opened up blackholes in our office. The famous Firepower Records office cats are still missing! On July 8th, PhaseOne will drop his newest single, UFO, and we can not be held accountable for the consequences.

We got PhaseOne to sit on the hotseat and answer a few Questions. He also threw down as our Guest DJ for the next installment of the Lock And Load mix series. So, blast this mix across the universe, like, repost, share it with homies. Let’s let those extraterrestrials know we can rage hard.

Your new single UFO is insanity. What did you focus on with this release that was different than previous releases?

The PhaseOne Brand as most would have seen/heard has a very space/galaxy centred motif, so I thought I’d delve into the extra-terrestrial side of that theme. I guess the difference is that I focused the sound design on an image, on what I thought a flying saucer would sound like in a musical fashion. You can hear the main fluttery bass in the drop is my representation. The entire song is one of the heaviest productions I’ve done, and I hope you all feel like you’re being invaded and probed while listening to it!

The bass music scene in Sydney is a pretty tight knit crew, but there are constant reports coming out about the recent dance music crackdowns. Has this affected the thriving bass music scene at all?

The nightlife has struggled immensely as a whole in Sydney due to the lock out laws that were enforced, but there are a few clubs & events which are still booking international bass acts, such as Chinese Laundry & Distortion, which are always a good time. I consider them part of the roots of my electronic musical career, so shout out to them!

If you were abducted and taken aboard a UFO, what do you expect to learn?

We all know aliens make the best Dubstep, so I’d expect to learn how to produce better!

What is your favorite aussie word that we don’t use in the states?

The “C” word, strangely a lot more acceptable in Australia more so than anywhere else I’ve heard of.

I hear you have some tour dates in the states planned! Tell us about it, and also, can you come to the FP headquarters and splash around with us in the pool?

I’m so excited! My US working visa was approved & I’ve signed with US talent agency ‘Warpath Group’ who are booking my debut US tour which is set for July & August. Going to do as many shows as I can! And yeah I suppose I’ll come for a swim.. only if I can cannonball though!

Firepower Records to Release PhaseOne’s new Single “UFO” http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-new-single-ufo/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-new-single-ufo/#respond Mon, 20 Jun 2016 04:37:42 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2434 Los Angeles (June 21st, 2016) Firepower Records is beyond stoked to announce that, on July 8th, we will be releasing PhaseOne’s highly anticipated new single “UFO”. Prepare for an abduction.

PhaseOne is known for his use of classic heavy metal elements in his work. Huge drum rolls and metal guitar riff simulations march through his tracks and provide an element of live instrumentation you don’t really find in other Bass Music productions. After teasing us into a sinister musical theme with an ominous key arrangement, “UFO” invades the braincase and unleashes the lasers. This time around, though, PhaseOne introduces some tricks, pushing his drum kits to their limits with new trip kicks and drum rolls. That is why PhaseOne stands out from the rest of the pack. Plus, he’s from Sydney, Australia, and comprises part of a pack of producers that are working hard to forge a reputation as un-fuck-with-able on the international dance music stage. With a U.S. tour scheduled for this summer, we are going to see, firsthand, some gnarly Aussie audio annihilation..

Firepower Records to Release Flatline Compilation Vol. 3 http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-flatline-compilation-vol-3/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-flatline-compilation-vol-3/#comments Tue, 16 Feb 2016 15:46:52 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2240 Los Angeles (February 16th) – Firepower Records is back with another massive Flatline Compilation, and, once again, the sonic weaponry assembled here proves the premise at the core of our philosophy: there’s no such thing as too much Firepower.

The question becomes “what do you do when you have a surplus of so much bass?” You bundle it all together and light it up. And that’s exactly what we did with these four choice tracks from some established firepower fam members and some artists fresh to the label. This collection exhibits our desire for the deeper, minimal, less mainstream and more underground sounds, and it challenges listeners to think twice about entrenching so hard in any particular part of the Bass music spectrum. We are therefore proud to announce the much anticipated 3rd volume of our Flatline Compilation.

Starting the compilation is a scorching VIP cut of “Recon” from two of Firepower’s most prolific producers—Protohype and PhaseOne. Chances are good you lost your mind to the original when it dropped on our Shellshock Legends compilation in May of last year. Turbocharge it, attach a jet engine to it, and you’ll come close to an idea of what this VIP might sound like. It’s all energy. Did you expect anything less from two of the most energetic producers in the bass music game?

It’s an honor to have Jarvis with us on the compilation. Last year, a call went out to remix Datsik’s global banger “Katana” from his Down 4 My Ninjas EP, and Jarvis answered the call in a fury we didn’t expect. “I’m on fire” showcases that talent. He displays an impressive range of production techniques, a clean vocal sample, and a diverse beat sequence. His synth layering shows a clear ear for musicianship, and his ability to construct a wall of sound makes this track festival ready right out the door. Expect big things from this up-and-comer.

We’re also stoked to have Zetta and 12th Hour with us on the compilation. “Ice Shield” is a heavy, buzzsaw-to-the-braincase track loaded to the max with enough audio ammo to re-calibrate even the most advanced soundsystems. Eerie and sinister, the track is a foot to the throat that only let’s up enough to let you breathe before it slams you again.

Krimer rounds out the compilation with “Bone Crusher”. We’ve been waiting a long time to get Krimer’s music out to the world, and given the insanity this track brings, the wait was worth it. The beat is frenetic yet fluid, never at ease with settling in. The synth is playfully aggressive, a kind of masochistic impulse that hurts so good. There’s a creative mind at work here, and the unique sound designs show a producer pushing the barriers of bass music.

The tracklist for Flatline Vol. 3 is:

  1. Protohype and PhaseOne – “Recon” (VIP)
  2. Jarvis – “I’m on Fire”
  3. Zetta and 12th Hour – “Ice Shield”
  4. Krimer – “Bone Crusher”

In the Firepower Hotseat with PhaseOne http://firepowerrecords.com/in-the-firepower-hotseat-with-phaseone/ http://firepowerrecords.com/in-the-firepower-hotseat-with-phaseone/#respond Mon, 26 Oct 2015 03:14:31 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2150 Pre-Order Matter of Time on iTunes here: bit.ly/MOTpre

Returning Firepower recording artist PhaseOne is about to drop a filthy dose of bass on the masses in the form of his new EP, Matter Of Time, and he’s doing it from the other side of the world. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, PhaseOne is currently wrecking the bass music scene down under. And the city isn’t making it easy, either. In this week’s Hotseat, PhaseOne tells us about what makes his sound so unique and why Sydney’s Lockout rules can’t keep ravers from their music. Read up, and stream his guest mix for Firepower’s Lock and Load Mix Series.

As an Australian, what is your Aussie Slang word and why?

I’m Aussie but often get mistaken for British… I’m probably the least Australian person I know of in terms of speaking. But as commonly known as Australians are for saying the C*** word, I am a bit of a culprate.

You lean heavily on live instrumentation sound designs like heavy guitar progressions and drumming sequences. How has your appreciation of other genres of music contributed to your unique production techniques?

Being a musician all my life, I would say, has accounted for that–playing piano and guitar in childhood, to playing in and producing bands in my youth. I’ve always had a love for hard hitting music, so I like to bring my influences of my past in to what I do now, hence the metal aspect, with emphasis on the guitar and drum rhythm just enough to tie in with the electronic aspect of what I’m trying to do.

Describe the Bass music scene in your city right now?

Sydney… The scene is small but you’re guaranteed to run into the same dedicated fans and event goers at every show. Everyone knows each other and are quite friendly, like a family vibe you could say. For me because it’s my home town it’s more just a good time with mates.

Over all I’d say Bass Music in Sydney has gone a lot more ‘underground’ (back to where is originally came from) compared to other states in Oz. A lot of that is due to the tough times Sydney’s nightlife is experiencing because of the recent ‘lock-out’ laws which has forced many events and venues to shut down sadly. BUT we still manage to pull off some decent shows despite all that, which really shows the dedication and is amazing that we’ve kept that, where bass music has turned almost non-existent in a lot of parts in the world.

What is your most prized possession and why?

Would have to be my laptop, I have everything on there! Projects, samples, vids, pics and all my programs, plugins, vst’s. Couldn’t live without it! That or my car haha, I drive everywhere!

If you had to spend 1 million dollars in a day, what’s the first thing you’d spend the money on?

I’d probably want to build a studio if I had that much money, that or just travel large for an extended period of time and not hold back on spending and experiences.

Firepower Records to Release PhaseOne’s Matter Of Time EP http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-matter-of-time-ep/ http://firepowerrecords.com/firepower-records-to-release-phaseones-matter-of-time-ep/#comments Wed, 07 Oct 2015 16:49:57 +0000 http://firepowerrecords.com/?p=2127 Los Angeles (October 7, 2015) Firepower Records is proud to welcome back PhaseOne for another atom smasher of an EP. Set to Drop October 30th, Matter of Time fuses together two of PhaseOne’s musical impulses: heavy electric guitar chord progressions and Bass Music. The results prove that artistic genius in the dance music game is the product of a sustained and consistent study of diverse musical influences. His recent remix of Northlane’sRot”, went supersonic this summer, proving the same blood running through massive rock ballads runs through heavy Dubstep, too. Matter of Time is the embodiment of that wisdom, and with every track containing clean and clear original lyrics, this EP is one massive communal Festival sing-along-slash-headbang waiting to happen.

“Extinction” begins the EP. The cinematic sound design features immediately set the tone, and the listener is suddenly struck by how perfect the title is. There is a frenetic chaos that comes when we think of extinction level events, whether they’re those from the earth’s past, or our own imminent demise. But there is also a melancholic beauty accompanying the idea as well. PhaseOne expertly crafts the complicated and emotional idea of destructive beauty into “Extinction”.

“Nangs” continues to display PhaseOne’s clear appreciation of metal guitar riffs, and his reliance on the live music technique creates a completely unique soundscape. This feature allows anyone with a perceptive ear to pick PhaseOne’s tracks out of set in under 4 bars.

The title track, “Matter of Time” is a fully realized popular composition. PhaseOne flexes his production knowledge here by designing the song using traditional songwriting techniques. But his infusion of expertly crafted and precise electronic production elements boosts “Matter of time” to another level of rage. One of the advantages he has at his fingertips is the ability to fill what would be empty spaces of a live recording with walls of sound, which pushes the decibel needle further into the face-melt ranges.

Rounding out the EP is “Take My Desire”. The track utilizes a steady and heavy guitar chord progression, hinting at PhaseOne’s impulse towards rock influences. The vocals roll over the top of the heavy synth wobbles nicely, creating a perfectly balanced track. It’s a great song to wrap up a beautifully composed EP, and hearkens back to the days when full albums we’re pieced together to tell a story and take listeners on a journey.

The Tracklisting for Matter Of Time is:

1. PhaseOne – “Extinction”
2. PhaseOne – “Nangs”
3. PhaseOne – “Matter Of Time”
4. PhaseOne – “Take My Desire”
