This is a special one for us—the release marks the first release by Init’s brand new alias, Cosma. Init, of course, is Firepower Fam from way back, so when he came to us with “Hornets”, we knew he had some filth to throw down. It’s heavy, it’s nasty, it’s bone rattling—it’s everything we love.
The first track off the EP is “Wild”, and, true to form, it’s savage. An ominous lead in builds to a drop that hits like a bunker buster. The earsplitting synth constructions and creative arrangements reveal an artist skilled in the craft of filth production.
“Choppas” brings the pain, and there’s no doubt this will be a permanent resident of main stage set lists around the world. The track builds on the sinister tone established by “Wild”, but then utilizes a massive drum structure to push the head bang levels to catastrophic. The track moves through its sections nicely, offering something different with each. Cosma has mastered the drop and it shows with “Choppas”.
Cosma flexes his trapstyle muscles with “True Gangster”, and it’s a genuine piece of bass music badassery. Deep and groovy yet wonky and pulverizing, the track balances out the two bass sub-styles perfectly. The result is a tune that’s bouncy and headnodic and feeds the musical ego of the old school rap fan turned basshead.
Squaring out the EP is the title track, “Hornets”, and it goes large AF. Cosma builds a massive wall of sound into the tune that absolutely punishes the dance floor. The track’s strength is its transitions. Cosma is able to engineer a kind of diversity into the tune that pushes the audience into a new headspace with each drop.
